Andrew (Andy) motes has 40 years of experience in laser electro-optics design and electronics engineering. An internationally recognized author and educator, he brings experience as a military officer, college professor, defense contractor and civil servant. He has authored 19 books and more than 50 academic papers on lasers, electronics, and modeling methods. His career experiences include roles as an electronics engineer, space systems engineer, laser physicist, laboratory research scientist, and computer software developer.
Andy worked on President Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative program, the U.S. Army’s Tactical High Energy Laser Program, and the Air Force’s Airborne Laser program. He taught astronautical engineering and control theory at the U.S. Air Force Academy, and physics and electronic design at John Brown University. Andy retired from the us air force reserves in 2007 at the rank of colonel, and retired from federal civil service in 2012. In addition to his career in military service and academia, Andy created nine commercial educational software packages (including the award winning and best-selling software called “School-Mom”).
